The Honors Program co-owns three vans with the Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS). We use them to transport students to community service project sites through CPCS, to take honors students on field trips as part of honors courses and seminars, and to take them to special events such as the Syracuse Symphony, the Syracuse Opera, and more. The vans seat 11 people plus a driver. The vans are parked next to the Sci-Tech building in lot Q4.
Faculty members who wish to use a van must reserve the van in advance. CPCS also uses the vans during the daytime so it may be more difficult to reserve the van then. You may pick up a Transportation Request form at the CPCS office in the Schine Center or at the Honors office in 306 Bowne or you may print it off the web.
You, as a faculty member, may elect to drive the van yourself. You MUST, however, take (and pass) the University's Driver Safety course first. (This is a 2-hour course in the Skytop parking lot focused on safety and maneuvering and parking between orange cones.) For information on taking that course, contact Christine Coe in the Safety Department, at 443-5474. Under no circumstances is anyone allowed to drive the van who has not taken the course. We also ask that you familiarize yourself with the Driver's Manual and the Safety Department Vehicle Safety Policy & Guidelines for the CPCS/Honors Van.
If you do not wish to drive the van yourself you may request a driver from CPCS through the Transportation Request form for local trips only (and not guaranteed). (CPCS will do their best to provide a driver for you; early reservation will increase your chances of getting a driver.)
