Format: Honors students will present their Capstone Project findings in a public forum. These public presentations have several benefits: (1) students have the opportunity for valuable experience in public speaking; (2) the wider campus community can learn of their accomplishments; and (3) Honors students will be able to see the outcomes of their colleagues' work.
Each student will give a fifteen-minute oral synopsis of his/her Capstone Project and its significance. A five-minute period of questions and discussion will follow. (Students should make certain that the oral presentation does not exceed fifteen minutes! Note, for planning purposes, that 7 pages of Arial 12-point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, provides text for about fifteen minutes.)
Presentations will take place all day, ending at 5:00. There will be concurrent sessions, organized by Capstone Prize categories:
- Creative
- Humanities
- Performance
- Natural Sciences and Mathematics
- Social Sciences
- Professional Programs.
Location/Time: Tolley Building. Date: April 30, 2008. See Schedule for individual presentation times and locations. Lunch will be served for Participants at the Capstone Café.
Audience: Students will of course be the audience for each other. Also present will be faculty, staff and other students. Students are encouraged to invite friends, families, and anyone else they wish. The rooms are large so there is room for everyone. The rooms all have entries well away from the podium, so people can come and go with minimal disruption. Some people will want to come just for an individual presentation but cannot stay for others, and they are welcome to do so. We strongly encourage the Capstone Advisor and Honors Reader to attend.
Equipment: Each of these rooms has the latest in audio/visual equipment and students are free to use any of it. The equipment in each of the rooms is the same. It consists of a DVD player, an audio player (cassette), video (VHS), a document camera (which displays the actual object on a screen), and computer (with Windows, including Power Point software).
Rehearsal: Several optional rehearsals will be held following Capstone Turn-In Day.
