Students, faculty, administrators, and staff of the Renée Crown University Honors Program share responsibility for advocating and upholding the highest standards of academic integrity. We expect our students to understand the educational value of these standards, and we expect those who teach and support our students to help them understand in detail what these standards are, why they are important, and how they will be met in each context of teaching.

The Honors Program follows the University's Policies and Procedures on Academic Integrity. Those policies and the relevant procedures are available online at http://academicintegrity.syr.edu, and a copy of the policy statement is attached, below. All Honors First Year Orientation Seminars will discuss the policy, and all Honors students will sign and return to Honors a statement confirming that they understand the policy and agree to abide by it.

The Office of Academic Integrity will notify the Honors Program of students who have been found to violate the policy, and the Honors Program reserves the right to expel any such students from the Honors Program. Confidential records of such violations will be maintained by the Deputy Director of the Honors Program.

A student may appeal this outcome to the Honors Program Director. Such an appeal must be made in writing, state the reasons for reconsideration, and be delivered to the Honors Program office within seven business days of notification of pending expulsion from the Honors Program. Upon receipt of such a request, the Director will convene an ad hoc appeal panel consisting of two members of the Honors Core Faculty and one Honors student. The student subject to expulsion will meet with the panel to make a statement and answer questions, and may also submit, in writing, statements from other persons. The panel may request additional documentation from the student and one or more schools or colleges. The sole issue to be decided by the panel will be whether expulsion from the Honors Program would be inappropriate. The panel's decision is final. It will be communicated to the student within seven business days.
